The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Snoopy Award model, reference number 3578.51.00, was released in 2003 as a limited edition timepiece to commemorate the Apollo XII mission. With a case diameter of 42.00 mm, this watch features a solid steel case material and a solid caseback. The design pays homage to the beloved character Snoopy, with the patch "Eyes on the Stars" displayed on the second subregister and a large size engraving on the crystal back that reads "Omega - The Moon Watch - Snoopy Award - Limited Edition - 0000/5441." Snoopy's association with NASA's manned flight awareness award stems from his popularity during the Apollo lunar program. The character had already been honored by having the lunar module of the Apollo 10 named after him and the command module named after his human friend Charlie Brown. As a universally recognized figure, Snoopy was chosen as the watchdog for this prestigious award. The "Silver Snoopy" award is still given today to individuals and companies for their outstanding contributions to human space flight missions. It consists of a sterling silver pin in the form of Snoopy wearing a space helmet and suit, which has flown aboard the Space Shuttle. Recipients also receive a certificate and a letter of commendation personally signed by an astronaut, expressing gratitude for their exceptional performance. Omega received its own Snoopy Award on October 5, 1970, recognizing the vital role played by its Speedmaster chronograph during the Apollo 13 mission. This special edition watch serves as a reminder of Omega's significant contribution to space exploration and its enduring connection to NASA's prestigious awards program.
