Finding the right timepiece...

The Milgauss was Rolex's watch for the lab coats, the scientists and engineers working around magnetic fields strong enough to scramble a normal movement. Launched in 1956, it could shrug off up to a thousand gauss, which is where the name comes from. Its personality lived in the details: a lightning-bolt seconds hand and, on the version everyone remembers, a green-tinted sapphire crystal you won't find on any other Rolex. It was always the quirky outsider of the lineup, and Rolex quietly discontinued it in 2023 with no replacement. That's turned the remaining ones into collectibles, so these days you'll track one down on the secondary market rather than in a boutique.
