WATCH PURSUIT
Finding the right timepiece...

The engineer's watch, reborn. The Ingenieur started in 1955 as an anti-magnetic, soft-iron-protected tool watch, then in 1976 Gerald Genta gave it the integrated-bracelet, five-bezel-screw look that made it legendary. IWC brought that design squarely back in 2023 with the Ingenieur Automatic 40: a steel sports watch with the grid-pattern dial, exposed functional bezel screws, and a bracelet that flows straight out of the case. It's built around robustness and anti-magnetism rather than flash, which is the whole point of the name. That 2023 relaunch landed right in the middle of the integrated-bracelet boom and became one of IWC's most in-demand watches almost overnight, so the steel models can be hard to get at retail. It's IWC's integrated steel-sports entry, from the same designer behind the genre's most famous names.
