WATCH PURSUIT
Finding the right timepiece...

This is Cartier's watchmaking showcase, not an everyday collection. The Rotonde de Cartier is a simple round case that the maison uses as a canvas for its most serious mechanical work: skeletons, moon phases, minute repeaters, tourbillons, and the famous 'mysterious' movements where the hands appear to float unattached. These are precious-metal, low-production, high-complication pieces from Cartier's Fine Watchmaking side, made in small numbers and priced accordingly. Cartier now groups it alongside the simpler Ronde, but the two aren't the same animal: the Ronde is the dress watch, the Rotonde is where Cartier shows off. Think of this less as a family you shop across and more as the brand's haute-horlogerie corner.
